About WESPAC

The West Virginia State Medical Political Action Committee (WESPAC) serves as the unified advocacy voice of West Virginia’s physician community in the political process.  As a non-partisan political action committee, WESPAC supports candidates for state office who demonstrate a commitment to advancing patient-centered care, protecting physician-led, team-based healthcare, and promoting policies that improve access, quality, and outcomes for all West Virginians.

WESPAC plays a critical role in ensuring that physicians have a seat at the table in legislative and policy discussions that shape the future of healthcare in our state.  Through strategic engagement in the electoral process, WESPAC supports candidates who understand the complexities of healthcare delivery and who are willing to work collaboratively with the medical community to address workforce challenges, rural health disparities, public health priorities, and the evolving needs of patients.

All contributions to WESPAC are voluntary and are used to support endorsed candidates in accordance with West Virginia campaign finance laws.  WESPAC operates in full compliance with all applicable state regulations governing political action committees, including contribution and distribution limits.

Under current West Virginia law, a political action committee may contribute up to $2,800 per candidate, per election, with separate limits for the primary and general elections.  This allows for a maximum total contribution of $5,600 per candidate per election cycle, provided no more than $2,800 is contributed in each election.  In addition, contributions to political action committees are limited to $5,000 per contributor per election period, meaning individuals may contribute up to $5,000 for the primary election and an additional $5,000 for the general election.

West Virginia law also requires detailed and transparent reporting of all PAC financial activity, including contributions received and expenditures made.  WESPAC complies with all reporting requirements through the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Campaign Finance Reporting System and maintains strong internal oversight to ensure accountability and transparency.

Public employees may disregard any solicitation when such activity is restricted by applicable law or workplace policy.  West Virginia law and ethics rules place certain limitations on political activity involving public officials and public employees, including restrictions related to coercion, use of public resources, and solicitation within supervisory relationships.  WESPAC fully respects these requirements and encourages all individuals to comply with applicable legal and ethical obligations.

Through responsible stewardship of contributions and a principled, patient-focused endorsement process, WESPAC advances policies that protect patients, strengthen the medical profession, and support high-quality healthcare across the Mountain State.
