Today the West Virginia State Medical Association Alliance is an organization comprised of Physician’s spouses dedicated to the health of all West Virginians. Our purpose is to assist in those programs of the West Virginia state Medical Association that improve the health and quality of life for all people, to encourage participation and assist with educational and charitable endeavors which promote health care network throughout the state of West Virginia.
Established in 1925 as the Woman’s Auxiliary to the West Virginia State Medical Association, just three years after the formation of the Woman’s Auxiliary to the American Medical Association, the WVSMA Auxiliary’s objectives were two-fold, the basic tenet being that of cultivating friendliness among physician’s families, the second, of promoting better relations between the profession and the public.
Later, nationwide the auxiliary was renamed the Alliance.
Currently the WVSMA Alliance is governed by Committee.
Board members for the 2017-2018 fiscal year are Najma Faheem, Ruth Gilbert, Sylvia Gogo, Sue McKinney, Amy Ricard, Rose Romero, Carole Scaring, Teresa Smith and Sarah Wade.
